Description
From a south-facing slope in Malmesbury comes a wine that has stood the test of time—and emerged with grace and gravitas. The Spice Route Flagship Pinotage 2000 was born from low-yielding, dryland bush vines planted in deep red shale, cooled by night-time sea breezes and picked at perfect ripeness.
Crafted with care, the grapes were destalked, fermented in stainless steel, and matured in assertive French oak (Demptos and Vicard) for 17 months. Bottled unfiltered, this wine captured the unadorned soul of Swartland Pinotage.
Now, 24 years later, it remains dark, dense, and vibrantly expressive—layered with spicy red fruits, dried figs, vanilla, and whispers of tobacco and tar. The palate is plush and silky, rich in fruit and history alike.
